AKA are excited to reveal that multi-award winning musical theatre star, Esther Hannaford, will be playing the title role of Carole King in the upcoming premiere production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical!
Hannaford is one of Australia's most versatile and in-demand performers, having played Ann Darrow in King Kong, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Bonnie-Mae in Miracle City, Penny Pingleton in Hairspray and Billie Bendix in Nice Work If You Can Get It. She has also received a Helpmann Award, Green Room Award and Sydney Theatre Award for her work on the Australian stage.
Commenting on the choice of casting, Australian Producer Michael Cassel said: "We hoped to find an actress who could capture the indomitable soul and gentle spirit of Carole King, whilst delivering some of the biggest and most iconic songs of the last century. In Esther Hannaford we've found our star - an accomplished performer who brings a delicate balance of warmth, humour and vulnerability to the stage which we know will strike a chord with audiences."
Needless to say, Australian audiences are in for a real treat as Hannaford takes on the role of the legendary singer/songwriter in the Australian Premiere of the Broadway sensation.
We can’t wait to see this supremely talented leading lady don a Brooklyn accent and grace the stage in this much-anticipated production.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical begins its Australian premiere season at Sydney Lyric Theatre in September 2017.
Further casting will be confirmed at a later date.
